On Not "Should"-ing Artists

As artists we often get pressure from other people (whether other artists or not) about our art: what to make, how much to price/value it, whether/where/when to submit it... As with most any judgment, those "shoulds" are filtered through someone else's experiences and honestly have nothing to do with us.

Peter Temple wrote, "Make something, look at it, and be happy."

Right now, that's all I need for the moment. My timeline is mine, and another person's timeline is theirs. Encouragement (after asking and taking a genuine interest) is one thing. Telling someone what they "should" do is something else entirely. Let's support people where they are, not where we think they "should" be.
