On This Being the Time to Keep Creating

"Don't take your ability to create for granted."

There are so many reasons to create: the need or desire to express oneself; having something to say; to commemorate a tragic event; holding someone's memory - or their future - dear to our hearts; to make beautiful (or not) things; just because...

We are experiencing tremendously stressful, uncertain, tragic times: climate change and almost apocalyptic level destruction of our environments; a pandemic resulting in an increased health crisis; civil unrest because people are rightly demanding to be treated fairly, equally, and respectfully; and so much more.

Many people are feeling despair.

I believe now is NOT the time to stop creating.

Instead, I think it is the time to create more, to express these thoughts and feelings, to create more art, to share our creativity and our passions and our hopefulness for humanity. This is not the time for the ascetics, but rather the time for active and compassionate engagement and creativity.

Art and creativity heals. Let us not take our ability to create for granted, and instead use it to help with the healing we all need now.
