On Looking Back at How Far I've Come

I recently got a call from lovely Sofia, my darling daughter who holds the magic of unicorns in her walk and whose laugh is like delicate crystal wind chimes in a gentle breeze. Her call, as always, lifted my spirits and blew the demons away with her soft, charming words.

See, I’ve been feeling oh-so-hum-ho about my work lately. How it doesn’t seem to be getting anywhere and I feel stuck in a rut. I keep looking at what I haven’t accomplished, what I haven’t done, what I have yet to learn…instead of the opposite…and those little demons are just running amok everywhere, trampling my spirit and feeding off my dwindling energy.

But then, like the beautiful sea goddess in “Ponyo,” Sofia said to me, ‘Look back a year ago and see where you were then compared to today. You’ve come so far. I’m so proud of you.”

And with that blessing, the demons scampered away, back into the recessed dark shadows that were much smaller because of the light Sofia gave to me.
