On Belonging
Someone once said to me, “You are one of us.” It was said by a complete stranger and it was completely out of context of anything.
And yet, it made me feel good.
I felt accepted. I felt like I was part of something, part of a group. I felt like I belonged.
If “You are one of us” meant that I am a human being, what greater inclusion can there be? I love that.
If “You are one of us” meant I am a quilter or an artist, that means I am part of a world-wide group of awesome creatives!
If “You are one of us” was meant to be a silly joke, how lovely that someone would be silly in such an innocuous and beautiful way.
