On Self-Discovery through Art

Since leaving the professional work world over a year ago, I have spent the time not only working on and improving my artistic skills, but on healing, reconciling, and learning.

Because I spend almost all day every day working by myself, I have had the chance to get to know myself in a different way and see how I interact with the art process.

All my thoughts and behaviors impact my art. If I am distracted, I make mistakes. If I am patient, my work comes out beautifully. If I am sad, I cannot work. If I am at peace, I am highly productive. These are things I never had time to think about while I was working in the fast-paced professional world.

By comparison, art requires me to slow down so I can think, process, plan, and just be present in the moment. I have yet to discover a better way to truly get to know myself than through art.
