On Talent

“We can’t take any credit for our talents. It’s how we use them that counts.” - Madeleine L’Engle

Lately I have been thinking about what we are born with, how we are nurtured and socialized, and who we become as mid-life adults (a much different place than early adults, I have found).

It takes a long time for some of us to find our talents, to recognize them, to nurture and feed them, and to become passionate about them. We cannot help how we are born, to whom, and the circumstances under which we are raised.

But once we know what we are good at, it is our job - and our job only - to do something with them. It takes work. It takes effort. It takes time. It takes money. It takes a slew of different kinds of investment.

I have found I do have many talents - untapped energies - that I was unaware of. I’m learning how to use them.
